Balsa / Floating Cottages

A balsa or floating cottage can accommodate up to 30 persons. Most balsa is equipped with tables and benches, a cooking/grilling area, a changing area, and a mini pool. Obviously, there is no restroom on board, so … 

All guests will be given life vests, and if you’re wondering about the food & drinks corkages, there is none.

All guests will be responsible for keeping their trash. Transparent trash bags will be given upon entry at the port, with some asking for a garbage deposit around PHP150. To claim back the deposit, guests have to bring the trash bag back to the port for proper disposal.

Rent fees range from PHP2,000 to PHP3,500, depending on the size and the owner of the balsa, as well as the available time slot.

Rent a stand-up paddleboard for PHP200 per hour, or kayak for PHP250 per hour.

Note that operators usually require reservation fee (range from P1,000-P1,500), environmental fee (P15) and entrance fee (P10). The balsa rates range from P2,200 to P4,500 depending on size and this includes boat ride to the cottage and back to the shore. Rates are usually higher on weekends.

Laguindingan used to be called “Daligdigan” coined from the words “daligdig“, meaning trickling water from Soloan Creek, and “digan“, a buri plant, which was used by the early settlers as roofing and walling materials. The name later evolved into “Laguindingan” because it is easier to pronounce and has a melodious sound.

The presence of an old Spanish port “Moog” at Punta Sulawan manifest the claim that before the settlers came to Laguindingan, the place was the hideout of robbers, pirates and bandoleros because of the once thick forest cover of the municipality. A brave man named Calixto Caseres together with his family moved in from Alubijid and settled for good. Other settlers followed and soon the place became a thriving community. A number of Cagayan de Oro civilians and government officials hide in Laguindingan during the second world war. Blocking force was established in Laguindingan that let Japanese soldiers to use boat instead going to Iligan.

Laguindingan is a fourth class municipality in the Province of Misamis Oriental on the Mindanao island, southern part of the Philippines. Most notable landmark is the Laguindingan Airport, located between Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City.

Barangay Officials

A barangay is led and governed by its barangay officials. The “barangay officials” is considered as a Local Government Unit (LGU) same as the Provincial and the Municipal Government. It is composed of a Punong Barangay and 7 Barangay Kagawad. Thus, there are 8 members of the Legislative Council in a barangay. Each member has its own respective committee where they are Chairmen of those committees. The Committees are the following: (1) Peace and Order Committee, (2) Infrastructure Committee, (3) Education Committee, (4) Health Committee, (5) Agriculture Committee, (6) Tourism Committee, (7) Finance Committee, and (8) Youth and Sports Committee.
