Lagonglong

Since the pre-Spanish time Lagonglong has been a fertile ground for rice production. As a matter of fact, its abundant supply of rice could support the neighboring and barrios. Tradition has it that a feast of thanksgiving commemorating the God of Golden harvest and other good spirits upon whom our forebears felt exceedingly grateful was oftentimes performed. This ritual was well attended by the harvesters, some of whom were from other places. With bowed heads, muttering the word LAGONLAGON in earnest gratitude, which means “bountiful harvest” the people thus show their gratefulness to the God of Golden Harvest. This in turn was repeated devotedly and with due respect to the god spirits, by all individuals present. After the ceremony, the banquet of thanksgiving followed incidentally, people from other places who happened to attend the ceremony took it upon themselves and when asked where the rice came from, would tell of the place where they had the chance to witness the interesting Lagonlagon ceremony. From time to time for practical reasons, people simplified this rather tongue-twisting name and eventually changed the word LAGONLAGON to LAGONGLONG.
