Remembered as the crash site of Cebu Pacific Flight 387 in 1998, Mt. Lumot, termed as “Mountain of Souls” by the local Higoanon people, is an emerging hiking destination in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental. It is a high point of, not a distinct mountain from, Mt. Sumagaya. The tragic plane crash is still fresh in the mountain as remnants such as clothes and accessories can still be seen in the trail; the impact site is also preserved. Also, a shrine has been erected in memory of Flight 387; this shrine is located at the major jump-off. Every year, a tribute climb is organized, the last one being held on Feb 1-3, 2008. (Source)

What was remembered as a place of death and tragedy on a mountainous area in Misamis Oriental is now becoming a thriving tourist destination after the provincial government converted a parcel of land near the Cebu Pacific Flight 5J387 crash site into a tourism complex and botanical garden.
The tourist destination is situated a few kilometers from the crash site on the slopes of the Mt. Sumagaya mountain range that borders Gingoog City and Claveria town.
The accident is considered one of the worst air disasters in the Philippines.
The Cebu Pacific airplane, a McDonell Douglas DC-9-32, bound for Cagayan de Oro from Manila, crashed into the mountain, killing all the 99 passengers and five flight crew on Feb. 2, 1998.
A 20-foot memorial shrine, dedicated to those who perished in the tragic event and erected about 20 years ago, is located within the complex. (Source)

An uphill, 1.5-kilometer hike (approx. 30 min) through the lush rainforest of Magbais will bring you to the first platform. There are five platforms built around trees 100 to 120 feet tall. To get from one to another, you have to walk on hanging bridges made out of steel cables and those two-inch stepping bars.
